抬眼间

雪山白的，仿佛

我又重生了一次，何况

还有从远处传来的一下下

湛蓝的钟声

不是夹杂

是复调

是一只雄牛吹响了自己头顶上的

那把号角

三千七百到四千，到六千米的海拔

从一匹马，走成了一只兔子

走成了一只蚂蚁

然后成了

挑亮月牙的

一根针

孤独本身就是一种修行

不知的孤独

亲近的孤独，和

离开的孤独

人在高原，想或者不想

悄悄地孤独

Yushu, the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture

Each person

—a Chewa

Kelsang, or

a Rinchen

Wangmu—

is a prayer drum

in motion.

Looking up to see

the snow mountain in white, it is as if

waking from a rebirth, and the deep blue voice

of distant temple bells happen to arrive,

not at all a random mix,

more like a polyphony

of bull horns blown by the bull himself.

From three thousand seven to four thousand meters

to six kilometers above the sea,

a horse becomes a rabbit,

an ant,

then a needle

that nudges the crescent moon

to light up.

Solitude itself cultivates body and mind, from

loneliness unbeknownst,

loneliness being together, and

loneliness upon departure.

Like it or not, on the Tibetan plateau,

one lives quietly away, unknown to the world.

那年冒大雪

前往小镇车站

为了追上将要离去的灵魂

路上的寂静

可以用积雪的厚度来衡量

我们踩出脚印

为了让更多雪花填满

像人走了以后

时光终会抹去他生活的痕迹

所以我们要有一个

像样的告别

在大雪中彼此端详

一张再也看不到的脸

寂静的大雪

有古意，也有仁慈

因为太寂静

再也装不下其他寂静

所以我们记得住

像记忆贮存了一块冰

That Year

That year we ventured out in a blizzard

to go to our whistle-stop station

to catch up with the departing soul.

The silence on the road

was as deep as the snow,

we sank our feet in it

for new snowflakes to fill the voids.

Similarly, the traces

of our lives will be erased in time,

therefore we must at least try

to give the departed a dignified farewell.

We gazed through heavy snow

at a vanishing face,

the silent snowfall felt like

a throwback to the gentler olden days.

The silence was deep,

the silence was complete,

and it impressed us

as a memory preserved in ice.

寂静的部分         常保平

三五间土做的瓦屋，门敞开着

对联还在，只是

关公的大刀更加朦胧

秋天的玉米被扒了皮，整齐地吊在屋檐下

二三只小鸟和一群鸡互致问候

院子干净，墙院外的核桃树落光了叶子

五百年的树龄，遒枝伸向天空

有纵深的远。门前一百米就是大山

突兀的巨石有沧桑的部分

房后就是坟茔，爷爷奶奶安静的居住地

柴火垛在石头上，足够一冬取暖

小河挂满冰凌，水缸里盛满了水

火塘未消尽，有贴心的暖

一条蜿蜒的小路长满了野草

出了栾川，就是洛阳、郑州……

The Quiet Section

A handful of sod houses, clay roof, doors left open,

new-year red couplets are still on, but

old Guan Gong's broadsword looks smut.

Shucked autumn corns hang neatly under the eaves.

A few birds and a flock of chickens cross path.

A tidy yard, next to the wall is a leafless walnut tree,

said to be five hundred years old, whose iron boughs

aim high at the sky.  A hundred yards from the front door is

a big mountain with rocky outcrops, visibly worn.

Behind the house are family tombs, granddad's and grandma's resting place.

Firewood stack on rocks, enough to keep the winter warm.

Icicles dress up the small river, but inside the house the water vat is full.

The fire ring still feels warm and homey, not quite dead.

The country lane twists and turns, overrun with weeds,

out of Luanchuan, there is the palatial Luoyang, then Zhengzhou ...

秋 日     六 指

那是被抽去时间的午后

我们逆着江水在邕江岸边行走

是的，我们变得越来越疏松而又轻盈

一钱阳光和二两空气的薄凉

刚好能够穿透我们宿醉的身体

秋风总是不慌不忙

如同打理它万里江山中的一株植物

或者搬运一朵硕大而毫无重力的白云

它舔舐着我们手心酒渍

留下往事风干后散开的花纹

有时我们会停下来静坐着

看蚂蚁在我们投下的影子中搬运草籽

像更高处盘桓的鹰在收回它的天空

我们等候风吹散我们落在杂草上的脚印

An Autumn Day

Time was absent from that afternoon

as we walked upstream along the River Yong.

True, we began to feel more and more relaxed and light-footed.

A penny of sunshine and two shillings of cool air

mixed perfectly to exhilarate our bodies from the hangover.

Autumn breeze was in no hurry

as if slowly grooming a plant in the vast landscape

or towing a mammoth floating white cloud.

Meanwhile it licked the wine stains on our hands,

leaving an artist's signature, a souvenir for the good old days.

A few times we stopped for a quiet rest,

watching ants carry grass seeds in our shadows.

A hawk circled high as if to take back the sky,

same for the wind to clear our footprints from the grass.

such as, spring is over, but there are

still flowers unopened, such as

in a season of blossoms,

there are bees and flowers that don’t meet.

Ants keep moving, with a hidden self interest,

hiding millet under the old city walls.

I have neither to give you.

The world has an invisible hand

that distributes sorrows and happinesses.

and, once again, I use this short line –-

to ask for forgiveness!
