欧洲诗歌暨文艺荷马奖章将授予那些在当今世界之文学和视觉艺术领域中的卓越创造者。评委会将褒奖作品富简洁与美、具普世理念、回应恒久范式的艺术家们，艺术技巧的高度和广泛传递的力量是其最重要的品质，奖章获得者们将因此而丰富他们的精神之父荷马的万神殿。

评委会高度认同您的诗歌在当代加拿大和世界文化中的重要性，您居于我们这个时代最杰出的诗人行列之中。

作为加拿大当代最重要的诗人之一，在逾半个世纪的诗歌创作生涯中，雷恩以全部诗篇写下了自己耀眼夺目的身份证明：道德的和诗歌的天才。在雷恩笔下，由人所主导的粗暴残忍的丛林法则世界及其中的艰难时日、万物境况拥有冰天雪地下之大地顽石的粗犷质朴，其苦涩的诗行中满溢生命之赖以持存的盐之味，冷峻的诗意使得“质朴”成为赋予“存在”之冷酷仙境以精神形式的当代范例。其调性丰富的诗行间最感人的高大形象是一位仿佛立于北美旷野的现代摩西在以其旷古以来的诗性声调向我们展示人之坚忍，唤回被消声者由来已久的尊严；亦有那进而在世界从不缺席的残酷与恩顾之两重性面前，终至上升到爱与尝试赞美的诗人立应和美之恩典的新声为恒久忍耐之新法；这位当代典范的诗人终其一生不屈不挠地梦想、实践着以言词改变视野，铸人为完美的生物并使其因此变形而获致永生。

We are very pleased to inform you, the distinguished Canadian poet, Patrick Lane that you have been awarded the European Medal of Poetry and Art HOMER by the Chapter decision.

Homer is the father of European and world culture, and his two great epics—the Iliad and the Odyssey— are the foundation of literature, the eternal inspiration for art and culture. The blind singer left a message of universality and built monuments, which are not dashed by centuries. Visions of this great creator had the power of flames and ignited the imagination from antiquity to the present. Thus, a great heritage group of worldwide artists was called into existence, September 2015, in Brussels, to inaugurate the European Medal of Poetry and Art. Medal recipients were artists from USA, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Italy, France, Bulgaria, Brazil, Peru, China, etc..

The European Medal of Poetry and Art, HOMER, will be awarded to outstanding creators in the world of literature and the visual arts. A jury will award the artists, whose works will be, with simplicity and beauty, universal messages to the world, reflecting the ancient patterns. The most important category is the level of artistry and the power of transmission, so that subsequent winners may enrich the pantheon of their spiritual father, Homer.

The members of the Chapter wish to emphasize the importance of your poetry for contemporary Canadian culture and the whole world. You belong to some of the greatest poets of our time.

One of the most important contemporary Canadian poets, Patrick Lane presents the world with a poetry of genius and of deep moral intelligence; in his whole body of work, written over half a century, he consistently offers a poetry of the highest order. In his poems, Lane demonstrates an empathetic masculinity, with its ruggedness and unaffectedness that lies like stone under a glacier’s ice and snow, to a world ruled by the human-led law of the jungle and its hard times, and offers this as a gift to all beings within this world. The bitterness and the traumatic found in many of his poems bring the indispensable taste of salt to life. The unaffected essence of his work, with its crisp, bracing poetic flavor, models a contemporary spiritual form for the hard-boiled wonderland of “BEING”. Within Lane’s poetry, with its variety of forms and tones, stands a most touching image of a modern Moses who voiced the endurance of the human with his ancient poetic tone, recalling the abiding dignity of the unsung and the excluded. Faced with the world’s essential duality of relentlessness and bountifulness, the poet ascends further in his later career to meditating and discovering love and managing to praise, all of which serve to develop a new way of embracing long suffering and lasting love, corresponding to the beauty and grace of nature. Meanwhile, all through his life, this classic contemporary poet lives his dream persistently with his unflinching willingness to believe that words can change the vision of an age, make us all creatures of perfection and immortal, thereby, with such transformation.
